Mr. Aftab A. Khan joined as an Associate/Partner at Lahore office of the firm during the year 1963-1964, when the Chief Judge of the Sindh High Court Sir George Constantine, after having retired, opened Lahore office of Surridge and Beecheno. During the decade of 1960’s under the Indus Basin Treaty, Mangla Dam, Linked Canals and Marala Barrage were being constructed, Mr Khan advised Mangla Dam contractors, Kaiser Engineers & Canal Constructors, international / American companies, constructing link canals throughout Punjab.
Mr Khan also advised major contractors at Tarbela Dam Project and also Daewoo Corporation, an international contractor, who constructed Lahore-Islamabad Motorway Project throughout the tenure of the project and attended to all their contractual legal problems from time to time.
He was enrolled as an Advocate of the Lahore High Court in the year 1958 and as an Advocate of the Supreme Court in the year 1993 and attended hundreds of cases for and on behalf of major clients, like Pakistan Television Corporation, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, Daewoo Corporation, Philips and Sandoz Pakistan Limited and Pearl Intercontinental Hotel.
Mr Khan drafted employees’ service rules and regulations for Pakistan Television Corporation, Sui Northern Gas, Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation of Pakistan, which were implemented and enforced for number of years by the then government.
Mr Khan has been on the Boards of Directors of several companies, such as Wyeth Laboratories Pakistan Limited, Orient Match Company, a subsidiary of Swedish Match, Bata Pakistan Limited, etc. Has attended several international conferences and has contributed by way of reading papers on various topics, such as “ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE & THE COURTS, THE BEST WAY, THE ONLY WAY OR THE NEED FOR SOME OTHER WAY”, “ARBITRATION/ADR versus LITIGATION“, “LIABILITY ARISING FROM AN OIL SPILLAGE VIS-A–VIS MARITIME INSURANCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL LAW PERSPECTIVE”, “CURRENT TRENDS IN ISLAMIC FINANCE”, “ECONOMIC JUSTICE”, “WHAT ARE THE REMARKABLE PROBLEMS ON INVESTMENT & TRADE WITH PAKISTAN?”, “THE SYSTEM OF JUSTICE & LAWYERS OF PAKISTAN”, “ROLE OF NUCLEAR ENERGY “, “ISLAMIC BANKS & FINANCIAL SYSTEM”, etc.
The World Bank, during the period 2006, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013, has given Certificate of Appreciation to Mr. Khan in relation to the work done for the World Bank. Similarly, he has also been appointed as an Arbitrator on the International Panel of Arbitrators by Shijizhuang Arbitration Commission, China. Additionally, in the Collection of Papers on International Commercial Mediation, Mr. Khan’s paper has been translated and published in Chinese. Mr. Khan was appointed as Mediator for the period 2009 to 2012 of the China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC) and has again been chosen as the listed Mediator of CCOIC Mediation Center for the period 2013 to 2016.
